Ilisin-Amis Harvest Festival Dances
The Formosa Aboriginal Song & Dance Troupe, Taiwan
Performed by The Formosa Aboriginal Song & Dance Troupe

“"FROM TAIWAN , ENERGETIC CEREMONIES OF MOTION…" as part of the Lincoln center's Out of Door Festival, were one of the rare groups who managed to overcome the distractions of the setting. Car horns, conversations, excited children and the city's busy skyscape paled before the authority, simplicity and radiant humanity of the company.” —The New York Times

With the aid of ethnologists, the artists participated in the research and record of aboriginal dances and festivals. They learned the dances from the senior members of the tribe and represent the dances faithfully on the stage. Their performance is full of energy and beautiful. The harvest festival is the most important ceremony of the year in Amis live, a thanksgiving to the gods and a prayer for the upcoming year. The songs and dances are not just entertainment but also ways of communication and the essence of the Amis culture.
